COOL POOL TAS- check out the new website

Philosophical Fuel

www.coolpooltas.com.au

Tassie’s car pool has arisen out of the hot earth and the abundance of empty automobiles exchanging glances on our increasingly busy Tasmanian roads. The drivers of these automobiles would like to coordinate together and share fuel costs (now hitting around AUD$1.60/L), to save a couple of dollars whilst doing their bit for lessening road congestion, and CO2 emissions.

There is also the traveller, or car less creatures out there that are often looking for economical, flexible and convenient ways to travel along common routes, to festivals, national parks, university or to work. Quite often travellers are looking to meet local people for a chat, which is where car pooling offers a great exchange for the passenger and the driver also who can have some friendly company to counter potential fatigue.

The January 31st transportation statistics in Tasmania told us that:
315,788 persons have their full license (with over 30,000 on Provisional and Learners on top of this number)

277,318 motor cars were registered in Tasmania (this does not include all other categories of motor vehicles).

We have great potential to POOL our RESOURCES and SKILLS here through the car pooling tasmania network.

WEBSITE ACTIVE FROM JUNE 9th: www.coolpooltas.com.au

How it Works?

It is an internet car pool tool to connect drivers and passengers in Tasmania. And, it’s as easy to use as clicking to become a member, sending us a few details about yourself (for the confidential database managed by shanti nomadic), paying your 15 dollars life time membership, or 8 dollars 6 month membership, which will give you an access code to read about contacts for all the offered rides and searches, or else make a post “looking for rides” or “looking for passengers”.

To make the site user friendly and as safe as possible with key car pool etiquette and advice on how to be a cool pooler. We ask that all members give basic details about themselves, including information such as driving experience, the type of car they drive and routes frequently travelled. Furthermore, an effective feedback mechanism for sharing information on the rides taken allows other members to view comments on how their ride was.

All of the membership fees circulate into the maintenance and improvement of the online carpool. Any excess fees that might appear will be used for marketing the car pool to increase the users and the likelihood of you finding the ride or passenger you hope to share the road with.

Cool Pool Tas takes no responsibility for the safety of passengers and drivers. However, through this site we mitigate risk as much as possible by sharing a small piece of information written by members and a photo (optional but encouraged), for other members to view of the driver/passenger, and their vehicle (if applicable). Also, and importantly, we have provided a general guide for how much you should collect (as driver) or pay as passenger, pending on the persons in the car.
If a member is reported as utilising this online site as a means of making money, they will be removed from the system. We are a car pool connection family and we are about sharing, safety and saving- dollars and the health of our natural and built environments. We are also wholesomely into the connections! If members meet on this site and can arrange their own car pool tradeoffs (you drive one day, me the next type thing), we are fully supportive of TRADE a RIDE.

Payment Guide

What’s a COOL PRICE?

Cool Pool Tas offers a contribution calculator to work out fuel costs to be shared. The costs are based on fuel shared with the driver also. The driver might pay a little less than passengers (5%) since we include in the fuel calculator factors such as upkeep of their vehicle.

Please keep in mind our philosophical fuel…we are not a transportation service that is about making money, but rather a cool way to share the road, and driving together. For frequent work commuters, we are just as happy if you meet on this site and trade driving and rides (with no money exchange). Furthermore, drivers might just be looking for passengers to support mitigating traffic congestion or for driving company and quote less contribution than our fuel calculator requests. ALWAYS CONFIRM MONEY BEFORE YOU MEET, it will save you any unnecessary stress or complications.

Please note that our philosophical fuel promotes that we do not compensate in our calculations for the more fuel consuming cars/engines, but base our calculations on an average fuel consuming passenger light vehicle.

COOL Etiquette in the POOL

It’s cool courtesy as a member of the car pool in Tassie to be mindful at all times. Mindful of the space you are sharing and the road you are travelling. So, please check out some cool etiquette to make it a great journey for everyone.

• Safe Driving- Defensive, safe driving is the only way to drive in the pool. Obey by all traffic laws, stay focused and it should be a cool trip.
• Clean Cars- Cool cars to ride in have safety belts, are well maintained mechanically by the driver, and are looked after inside also, to make for an inviting travel space for fellow car poolers.
• Music. Music is great for journeys, but be respectful in your choice of tunes and thoughtful as to the volume of the music when travelling with other people.
• Payment- It’s cool to pay the money (if it is not a trade) before driving out towards the destination. This ensures that there’s a trust between driver and passenger and that the driver has some extra cash to help fill up the car if necessary.
• Filling Up- unless you have discussed with your ride share that you will split the fuel evenly and/or the fuel station is on the way out of town, try and organise picking up your ride with a tank of gas/petrol.
• Pick up & Drop Offs- It’s cool in the pool if the passengers can make their way to the driver’s nominated pick up point (make sure it is visible and public- safety first!), and that the driver can drop off some where practical (nearby or at the passenger’s destination or alternatively a public transport portal).
• Perfumes and Odours- It’s cool courtesy to avoid using strong perfumes, removing smelly shoes and that type of thing when sharing a confined space in an automobile in the car pool. Respect the pooler/s in your company.
• Detours En route- It is not cool in the car pool to take picnics and short cuts, or detours, or long stops. The car pool is an A to B connecting service. Please stay on track and schedule.
• Are you a late person? Be on time!! If you have an appointment in the pool, don’t be late- and if something comes up and you are running late- call your driver/passenger well ahead.
• Do you smoke? Maybe this is not so cool in the car. If you are the driver and a smoker, chances are the passengers will be too polite to say it does bother them if you asked their permission to light up a ciggi…so, be aware that people are polite, and smoking isn’t so cool in the pool.
• Snacks. It’s cool to check with your pooling partners before jumping aboard with hot food, or opening up packets of food (such as nuts) that may be harmful or disturbing for those sharing the ride.
• Toilet Stops. We all have to go, but get yourself organised before the pool, and if it’s a longer ride- discuss together a good break point where this nature’s calling can be coordinated (save stopping 4 times). If you are feeling the need to use a toilet, let your driver know in advance so they can plan a stop at an appropriate place en route. Same goes for the driver to let your passengers know you are thinking of a stop ahead, so everyone knows what is going on.
• Frequent Commuters. It’s cool to keep a log of your trips and exchange rides rather than money, keeping a log of how many times you travel in your personal log book online to make sure there is an even exchange. If money will be paid, it’s cool to work out a monthly rate and pay at the end of each month (also keep a log of this in your personal log on line).

Home 2 Hub

Frequent Work Commuters

A great feature of our site is that members can turn on a feature called home 2 hub. When you register you can choose to be notified if other people are travelling from the same HOME and 2 the same HUB as you.
For example: Each day of the week you travel from Blackman's Bay to Hobart, and so do 4 other people. You can choose to receive emails connecting you with these other people, and you can also choose to allow them to be notified of your travels along this same route!

Goodluck!
